Calendar of Deadlines for the Personal Essay

Outlines due at class-time on Sept. 24.

First drafts are due at class-time on Friday, Sept. 28.

Second drafts are due at class-time on Wednesday, Oct. 3.

Poetry Out Loud

By the time we’re back from the Thanksgiving holiday, choose two (2) poems from the Poetry Out Loud web site.

One poem can be 25 lines or fewer. The other poem needs to be 26 lines or longer. One of these two poems – either one – needs to come from before the 20th century: 1899 or before.

We will rehearse poems out loud during the week before winter break.

We will perform these poems in class during the first week of 2012. (Performance schedule TBA.)

The Woodbury school-wide contest will held on Thursday night, January 12, 2012, at 7:30 p.m.

As you continue to refine your Narrative Essay, look for opportunities to include two useful D’s:

1. Details of experience, effectively described.

2. Dialogue: the things people say.
